Explore the Upper Yahara River Watershed at these weekly nature walks. Each week walks are at a new location.

April 23 Culver Conservancy
Earth Week
3667 Egre Rd, DeForest

Meet John Hutchinson, chair of Token Creek Watershed Association for a glimpse of the springs and restoration efforts at Token Creek. Highway 19, North on Portage Road, East on Egre Road.

April 30 Cherokee Marsh Catfish Court, Waunakee

Meet Nancy Schlimgen at the dog park parking lot. Walk along uplands overlooking Cherokee Marsh to reach sites within Yahara Heights Park. Highway 113, East on River Road, immediate right on frontage road.

May 7 Governor's Island Cinder Lane, Madison

Meet Gary Maier for his interpretation of Effigy Mounds after walking the Governor's Island loop, a peninsula overlooking Lake Mendota. Access Main Drive via Green Avenue or Troy Drive left onto Cinder Lane into Mendota Mental Health Institute parking lot.

May 14 Jackson's Landing 5485 Willow Rd, Waunakee

Meet Jim Stephenson at the Willows Tavern parking lot. Hear the history of this site while viewing these preserved wetlands. County Highway M, south on Willow Road.

May 21 DuVall/Saddlebrook 56668 Woodland Dr, Waunakee

Meet Nancy Schlimgen to walk to the edge of the Six-mile Creek for a view of its adjacent wetlands within this new natural resource area. Enter off of Enchanted View Lane. Continue straight onto gravel road until parking area in front of large gray barn.

May 28 Holy Wisdom Monastery 4200 Hwy. M, Middleton

Meet Nancy Schlimgen and Paul Boutwell at lower left parking lot. See restored Lost Lake, upland prairies and their impact on lake quality. County Highway M, Middleton.

June 4 Pheasant Branch
Creek Conservancy
Century Ave./Branch St., Middleton

Meet Janet Kane, board member of the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy, to walk along the creek to view shoreline restorations and hear of other Friends' projects. Meet at the entrance near the intersection of Century Avenue and Branch Street in Middleton. Parking is available along Branch Street.

June 8 Gov. Nelson State Park 5140 Highway M, Waunakee

20th Anniversary Celebrations, starting at 1:00 p.m. Create your own walk along the way! County Highway M.

June 11 Dunn's Marsh 3051 South Seminole Hwy, Fitchburg

Meet Brooke Norsted, Chair of Friends of Dunn's Marsh at the Seminole Highway parking lot. Seminole Highway South from the Beltline or North from PD/McKee Road. The Seminole Highway Parking lot, from the Beltline is on your right after you pass the marsh and begin to climb a small hill, or on your left a ¼ mile after you cross PD.
